Who We Are

The Mechanicsburg Adult Environmental Club, active since 2004, is part of an umbrella organization Green-CAUSE (Capital Area United to Serve the Environment). Green-CAUSE is an organization that connects municipal green organizations in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties to facilitate the sharing of information, to promote green living and green business, and to provide education about good stewardship practices that improve and maintain our water, air, and earth. On January 1, 2011, the umbrella organization, Green-CAUSE (Green Capital Area United to Serve the Environment), was brought into existence. On January 2, 2012 the website,, was officially formed.

Four years after organizing and launching the Mechanicsburg Area Adult Environmental Club, a core group among our steadily growing membership looked around and decided that we could take this Club’s concept into other municipalities to have a larger impact. Up until then, battery recycling was our lucrative fundraiser; participating in PennDot’s Adopt-a-Highway and cleaning the Condoguinet Creek five times-a-summer was our exercise; running the 5th Grade Green Teams (since 1993), our High School Environmental Club (since 1998), and helping with the Mechanicsburg Earth Day Festival (since 2008) was our outreach; helping with C.C. Recycling and Solid Waste’s “collection days” was our passion.

This core M.A.E.C. group met monthly, in addition to M.A.E.C.’s general monthly meeting, in order to name, design, create a website ( and launch an umbrella organization that would grow and nurture grass roots environmental entities ( clubs, church groups, school groups, green businesses, etc.) in other municipalities within a 20-mile radius of the dome of the Capitol.

The idea was that the various entities, under the Green-CAUSE umbrella, would support each other in every way possible. For example all clubs support the Lemoyne Gang Green with tools and laborers when they work on their street rain gardens and cleanups. When we clean the Condoguinet Creek every organization in Green-CAUSE is invited to help. When the Wormleysburg Yacht Club works in their Riparian Buffer area or cleans their adopt-a-Highway we supply the wheelbarrows, shovels, buckets, litter gitters, etc.. The Camp Hill Environmental Club has interesting, informative, monthly meetings that all clubs are invited to attend. Businesses have their website placed on our website and members support them.

The Mechanicsburg Adult Environmental Club meets once per month, on the third Thursday of each month. The meetings begin at 7:00 PM and start with good news announcements, followed by a speaker, then a short business meeting. We wrap up at 8:30 PM. These meetings are open to everyone.
